Who do you trust?
If you've been building websites for
even a few days you've probably noticed
by now that there is a TON of information
out there. Unfortunately, much of
it is simply sales information disguised
to get you to buy something.
For instance, one well known "guru"
recently came out with a sales letter
where he said "Blog and Ping
is DEAD!". It's not working anymore.
He went on to state how Google was
banning people who were using Blogger
to do their spam blogs (splogs).
Yes, it's true. Blogger IS cracking
down. However, what is NOT true is
that blog and ping is dead. It is
certainly far less effective than
it was months ago but that's due to
the way that it works.
Anyhow, the point is - who do you
trust? It's very difficult to trust
those guys who are pimping their new
techniques. Quite often, they'll see
a new method mentioned on a forum
and write an e-book, piece of software,
whatever and say how great it is simply
to make some money.
Now, I'm not against folks making
money - far from it in fact. But,
you've got to look past the sales
hype and analyze what they're saying.
My recommendation to you is to have
a budget for experiments where you
can buy some of these e-books, programs,
etc. That way you'll be able to try
it out and see if it works for you
or not. But don't bet the bank on
every new gimmick that comes out because
a vast portion of them simply don't
work.
