Defining search engine spam and dispelling the myths by Earl Grey

I often see people on various forums complaining about search engine spam and i decided to compile a few of the posts i have come across and make them into an article for reference and just to get it off my chest because most of the complaints are absolute rubbish.

I think the best one ever must have been one a fe months ago which was titled `My competitor is spamming the search engines!`

This was superb because as he went into detail about the techniques about his competitor it was an eye opener to be and some of the techniques he was using were some of the most downright and devious. It turns out that the complainant had an average site and he was a below average seo that was getting whipped in most of his keywords.

Well his competitor seemed to be a competent seo with a very nice functional site that was performing quite well due to the work he had put into ranking it through content and good design.

The complainant went into detail and he had noticed his competitor was spamming the search engines in a big way by `putting his keywords over his images`.

I was in absolute hysterics at this. If i need to explain how this works you shouldn't really be reading a black hat site and you should be reading web accessibility tutorials because to `name your images` is called `alt tagging` and this is important for site design, accessibility and seo as well.

Due to the fact the complainant being completely incompetent and having weak sego skills he had analyzed his competitor in a bad way and was looking at ways of how to report him for this spamming which he had heard about on various forums full of wimps.

The thread went on quite a while and spread many pages and most of them were insults on the op. I will admit i was involved in the tirade of abuse towards him and i has quite a laugh out of it all.

Now when i see a post that starts with `my competitor is spamming ` i always look a bit deeper and remember the post i saw from the prick.

I would never personality report my competitors for any kind of spamming because i don't really need to. i have competent se skills whether black or white and i will just outrank them in any which way that i can but there are people out there that go reporting competitors for spam nit even knowing the definition of spam.

If you see ever see a post on a forum which i similar to the one i have talked about you need to do the thread creator a favour and give them some serious abuse to educate them on the way the internet works. They deserve it :).

Peace out, The Earl of Grey.
